With the people of the Unraine on my mind, I didn’t fell right celebrating the return to normality of our lives. But having spoken to some good friends, I now think that it’s important to continue to celebrate love, carry on fighting the good fight and celebrating the freedoms that we have. So heres’s the first of 2 blog posts containing my favourite images from 2021. This is the first, showcasing onluy documentary photography. The second post will be just portraits. There were too many to put together in one post!
2021 – A look back at my craziest year in wedding photography… so far.
If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that the world can be an inspirational place, where people look out for each other, make the most out of a difficult situation and work together for the greater good. It’s also highlighted the importance of photography in documenting history as it unfolds. For me, documentary photography is much more thatn just pointing a camera at something that is happening. It’s getting into the heart and soul of the occasion, empathising with people, shooitng what’s important to them and representing the wedding with honest and true photography. It’s imperfect, beautiful, emotional, heartwarming, sometimes funny, sometimes gritty, but always real.
I’ve been lucky enough to witness celebrations like no other, where families have been together for the first time in years, and people have been able to celebrate love, dance, sing and once again tie their tie around the head whilst singing ‘Sweet Caroline’ at the top of their voice with a pint in one hand and the other around the shoulder of a friend. In 16 years in wedding photography, I can honestly say I’ve never had a year like it. And once again, the importance of photographs should not be underestimated.
And so, I present to you a selection of my favorite documentary frames from 2021. (A post contining my favourite portraits of 2021 to follow) Images of people enjoying themselves, people in love, laughing, crying, singing and dancing. For life goes on, and love will set us free.
For the lovers and the dreamers.
Awesome, imaginative, fearless, incredible. You can see you’re constantly pushing for more on the day, so creative. Well done, can’t wait to see what you create this year!
