The Ashes Barns, Staffordshire
I’m lucky enough to have been an Ashes Barns Wedding Photographer on three separate occasions now, although I’m yet to visit the place in the summer! My first outing there was a couple of years ago on a wintery day in March for Helen and Adam’s wedding. It was a brilliant day, but as you might expect on the edge of the peak district it was a little chilly! And we had one of those evenings where you get that really fine rain. You know, the stuff that gets you wet. I’ll post some images from that wedding soon, but you could certainly find a few if you dug around on my Instagram feed @stevenrooneyphotography
My latest wedding at the Ashes Barns was another wintry occasion. But Sian and David had some incredible luck and managed to secure a little piece of summer in the middle of February. It was glorious! Although, when I arrived at the venue it was blowing a gale and raining cats and dogs. The forecast said sun though and I did hope that it wasn’t wrong again. The highland cows were out of their sheds and we were able to make the most of the beautiful landscape that this fabulous venue has to offer. Sian and Dave have two children, who you’ll see feature heavily in the photos. They were certainly the stars of the show and helped to take the attention away from the adults!
Wedding Photography at The Ashes Barns
The Ashes Barns has changed quite a lot in the few years since I first visited. There’s now much more accommodation as well as a new dressing room in the south courtyard for getting ready. This means that the whole day can be contained on-site and, from a photography point of view, enables me to cover both partners getting ready.
The venue itself is located in the foothills of the Peak District National Park, within Staffordshire in the West Midlands. It was named as the best wedding venue in the country at the Wedding Industry Awards in 2014. So with it’s an orchard, highland cows, stunning views, various barns and more rustic charm than is legally allowed, The Ashes Barns Wedding Venue has a lot to offer.
Anyway, enough backstory. Here’s a proper story… Sian and Dave’s incredible midsummer barn wedding in February.
