Jane and Graeme were married in September at the Hope Street Hotel, a venue that so many Liverpool wedding photographers enjoy shooting at. I love to document weddings in places with character and Liverpool never fails to disappoint. This particular venue is located in the cultural quarter of Liverpool in between the two cathedrals. It’s location at the tp of the city means that you can get a panoramic view of the whole of Liverpool from the penthouse and the balcony of the function suite. Although partly a new build, most of the hotel bedrooms are part of the old building which was used as a coach factory through the 19th century. Many of the original features still remain.
A Photographer’s point of view
It’s such a joy to be able to photography any wedding in natural light, but the views here are pretty spectacular and the room has full length windows on 3 sides. I shot much of the wedding from the balcony through gaps in the open doors which was great for me as I was able to move about unnoticed. Following the wedding itself we took a walk down the road for some group photos and bride and groom portraits, taking in the interesting urban backgrounds along the way. In this part of the city there are so many different backgrounds to choose from. I like to look for things that are different, colours, textures and other things that contrast with the wedding. But having a great couple to work with makes the whole experience of photographing portraits 100 times better.
The wedding breakfast and very entertaining speeches took place on the 4th floor of the Hotel, then everyone moved down to the residents bar in the basement. We had a few minutes at this point to create a few more photos with the evening light before the evening reception kicked off.
All in all it was a great occasion and I couldn’t have asked for more from a photography point of view. As far as the venue goes it’s not a surprise that so many Liverpool wedding photographers want to shoot in this fantastic venue.
Brilliant dude, just awesome 🙂 Love the shot through the hair curlers!
