Hillbark Hotel Wedding Photographer // Frankby, Wirral

Wedding Photography at the Hillbark Hotel in Frankby

Natalie and Michael were married at the beautiful Hillbark Hotel on the Wirral. It’s a venue I’ve shot at a few times, and one which I very much look forward to visiting again. The venue itself is perfect for photography in many ways. It’s a stunning Tudor building with original wooden beams giving the venue a lot of character. Inside there are big old windows and wood paneling on the walls which provide a soft warm light even in the winter. Natalie and Michael were lucky enough to have had great weather for their wedding and we even managed to catch the last light of the day before the sun dipped below the trees ahead of a brilliant evening reception in the marquee.

Stunning golden hour light at the Hillbark Hotel

Good light plays a huge part in creating great wedding photographs. If it’s not there I’ll bring my own, but when it is, you can’t beat it. We were fortunate enough to find a small gap in proceedings to take advantage of this. Taking the bride and groom away from the wedding festivities isn’t something I like to do too much. It’s a wedding, not a photoshoot after all, but given the opportunity, I love to create images for my couples that will remind them of the day, the venue the weather and also give them a few minutes alone to stop and take it all in. Ten to fifteen minutes for this kind of thing is ample.

A country house wedding on the Wirral

Natalie got ready at home with her parents and bridesmaids. The scene was set and everything was ready to go. Confetti was packaged up, jewellery that Natalie had made herself was carefully laid out, and dresses were freshly steamed. I met Michael at the venue shortly before the guests started to arrive. He was clearly the more nervous of the two! The sun was shining as Natalie and her bridesmaids arrived and the weather was brilliant all day long. Family formals at the front of the building were followed by a drinks reception spilling out into the grounds. The wedding breakfast, speeches and more socialising preceded a vibrant and fun evening reception with a live band in the marquee.

The Hillbark Hotel is situated in Royden Park, near Frankby on the Wirral.
