This was no ordinary London Wedding.
If you had just met Petra and Petr you could be forgiven for thinking they had just fallen in love and were on their second date. But no, these childhood sweethearts have been together for 20 years! And they are as nice a couple as you could ever hope to meet. I spent the day documenting their wedding and touring London with the newleyweds and their small wedding party and loved every minute. I was able to tell the story and create the images that mean more to me as a photo journalist. At any wedding the images that people love most are those which tell a story and go deeper than a few people smiling at the camera. These are the images that will be cherished more than others, because they represent what a wedding is about. Two people in love celebrating and sharing their happiness with those closest to them.
A London Wedding – Islington Town Hall, Ice cream, The Kings Head, Camden Town, Rubens and the Shard.
They wanted their day to be relaxed and fun. A celebration of their love and of the past 20 years together. And that’s exactly what happened.
The wedding took palce at Islington town hall in the company of their closest friends, Petra’s mother and their Daughter, who stole the show. In fact I’m sure she had a say in the post wedding venue as we took a short walk across the road to Udderlicious for ice cream. To balance it out it was then on to the King’s head for a post wedding drink before heading to the tube and stroll through Camden Town. Following this, it was back to the hotel to freshen up and on the Shard for dinner.
A word form the happy couple.
Petra and I met at a local school disco and it did not take me long to ask her to go out with me. I still remember our friends cheering and clapping straight after my proposal :-)). Ever since, all our friends called us ‘childhood sweethearts’.Well, we were in our early teens.
It took me 17 years to propose. I took Petra by surprise and arranged a trip to Venice where she finally said ‘yes’. As we started planning for our wedding, Petra just happened to become pregnant with our little Jasmine and we had to delay our plans a little bit.
We choose London as after many years of living here we are still in love with the city and wanted it to be part of our very special celebration. After all, we are planning to have our second and informal celebration with both of our families and friends here and our second home in the Czech Republic.
Ah! I just love everything about this wedding. You captured it perfectly 🙂
