Kilrie Granary Wedding Photography // Fife, Scotland

An Outdoor (in the rain) Humanist Festival Wedding in Fife, Scotland.

This summer I took a wee trip to Scotland (stopping off at Tebay on the way) to photograph the wedding of Juliet and Steve at Kilrie Granary. This rustic and beautiful wedding venue is set in the countryside near to Kircaldy in Fife, over the river from Edinburgh in Scotland. They had opted for a humanist wedding outside in the grounds of the venue which was conducted by Annalese McDermott.  They opted for a festival vibe for the day and did away with many of the traditions associated with weddings in the UK. This made for a much more fun and personal feel to the day, which reflected Juliet and Steven’s personalities and allowed everyone to have time to enjoy the occasion.

It’s not so much the venue on its own which makes for good opportunities for photographs. More, it’s a combination of a venue that suits the vibe and atmosphere that the couple had created. Having a celebrant led ceremony allowed the occasion to be very personal and meaningful for Juliet and Steve as well as allowing a little more freedom in the structure of the ceremony itself. Each part of the celebration was significant to them and it was a real joy to photograph. In typical Scottish fashion, the rain started soon after the beginning of the wedding and the umbrellas went up. But our couple weren’t phased and carried on regardless. You take the rough with the smooth and the weather was kind to us later in the day when we were lucky enough to get out into the grounds of Kilrie Granary to shoot some portraits as the golden sun dipped towards the horizon in the evening.

Rounding off a great day at a wonderful wedding venue

It was only right that such an occasion should end with a Ceilidh! A great way to get everyone up and dancing sooner rather than later. A great time was had by all in a venue that didn’t disappoint. If you’re interested in Wedding Photography at Kilrie Granary, please get in touch as I’d love to shoot there again one day.

People who helped make it all happen (Actually Juliet and Steve did much of it themselves)
