Behind the Lens - About Me

Husband, Father, Teacher, Sports fan, Tea Drinker

I’ve been lucky enough to photograph weddings in many corners of this beautiful earth. I’ve met people of many backgrounds and religions and made lasting friendships with those who I’ve photographed. I feel like I’ve lived their weddings with them and it was an absolute joy each and every time.
I have the same goals for you and your wedding. I want it to be beautiful, heartwarming, funny, and above all, a wonderful adventure and the start of an incredible journey. I want to get into the heart and soul of it and produce images that will take you back there, to create important and meaningful photographs that will be part of your legacy. Images that don’t just show what your wedding looked like, but what it felt like.
Steven Rooney is a multi-award-winning wedding photographer and photography teacher, with 14 years of experience in photographing weddings. He is currently ranked as the best wedding photographer in the UK by several wedding photography organisations. He lives in the North West of England with his wife (and boss) Sally and their 3 children.

If you’ve read this far, then you’re obviously serious about making the right decision at this point of your wedding planning. And quite right too.

A wedding photographer has a huge part to play on the wedding day itself, but leaves behind a legacy which a couple and their family will hold dear for generations. Needless to say it’s an important thing to get right and a decision that needs some thought. There are a whole range of wedding photographers available at any one time, each with their own style and way of working. And, each with a different price. I have to say, having been married for nearly ten years, I still love our wedding photos (thank you Ian). But choosing a photographer back then was much easier than it is now.

When you book a wedding photographer, you’re not just buying some snaps from your wedding. You’re investing your trust and money in a person who will research, empathise with, care for and craft a set of images that will be a part of your family history. If you’re interested in seeing some of my family history, check out my personal blog posts here.

This is me

You would think that after all these years in the photography industry I would have a decent photo of myself. Truth is, I don’t really like having my picture taken. Anyway, this is what I look like. In case you were wondering.

About me

I was born in Scotland but have lived in England most of my life, and I’ve been taking pictures for as long as I can remember. I trained and worked as a primary school teacher before working in FE and eventually made my way to where I am now, using my camera to pay the bills full time.

I live in the North West of England with my wife Sally and our 3 children who are our pride and joy. We like the simple things in life. Time together, good food, (good wine), walking, talking, travelling and making memories.

Sally and I run the business together. Well, Sally runs it, I take the pictures ? We pride ourselves in looking after our clients throughout the whole process and exceeding expectations. Sally also runs our sister company Smileomatic Photobooths which won best wedding special touch (North West) at the 2018 Wedding Industry Awards.

I’m passionate about making people happy through my photography. I’ve loved weddings ever since I started shooting them some 12 years ago, because each and every wedding I shoot is unique. Not because of the flowers, the table decorations or the venues, but because of the people involved. The characters in a story that has yet to be written. Over the years I’ve come to realise that the images that are most important to people are those which can really rekindle feelings and emotions. And this applies to all photos, not just wedding photography. It’s my own experiences in life up to this point that make me release the shutter when I do. And why what’s important to you, will also be important to me.
